Fornleifastofnun has a committment to outreach and communication for all its archaeological projects. This entails writing news about recent work that can be read with the general public in mind as well as giving the specialist summary information; publishing its work both as grey reports, peer reviewed journals and books, as well as monographs of archaeology; creating access to information through online digital resources; taking part in education and presentations about archaeology; and communicating archaeology beyond specialists to furnish useful and society worthy applications and discussions that demonstrate archaeology as a valuable cultural resource for Iceland.

Several areas are being developed within a programme of continuous outreach and communication of our work to others:

Excavation in the summer months organise site tours, activity days, lectures and presentations of recent work as well as long-term information presentations for cultural tourism and general interest.

Survey projects liase with the local communities within which work is taking place to allow them to develop presentations for cultural tourism and information guides.

Digital access of work carried out in Iceland is of vital importance in communicating what we as archaeologists do. Fornleifastofnun has been involved in several projects: Archaeological Records of Europe: Networked Access (ARENA) [funded by EU Culture 2000 programme] and Miðlun menningarsögulegra upplýsinga (MMU) [funded by Rannís].
