Fornleifastofnun carries out numerous archaeological projects that use a range of different techniques, methods and equipment. A large majority of projects conducted by the Institute are research, often involving several different organisations and facilities both in Iceland and abroad. Other projects are carried out because of planning requirements and these include both archaeological survey (regional, field, intensive and environmental assessment) as well as evlauation and excavation in advance of construction or other land development.
